Liposuction body sculpting (or suction-assisted lipectomy) has become one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures performed today. Proven safety, minimal scarring and outstanding results have made it the preferred method for removing fat from the hips, thighs, buttocks and midriff. Liposuction is not an alternative to weight reduction, but can be very effective in removing fat from areas that do not respond to diet and exercise programs.
Traditional liposuction removes fat with a suction machine and a small cannula that is moved beneath the skin. For an In-Office Liposuction procedure, we utilize the Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) technique. Power assisted liposuction is a method in which the cannula is put in motion with a machine. The PAL enables the physician to remove fat tissue precisely and effectively. The PAL device produces rapid, small vibrations to break up fat so that it can easily be suctioned out through the cannula.
The vibrations actually make liposuction gentler on the body’s tissues because it loosens fat cells and allows them to be easily suctioned away. The specialized cannula on the PAL machine allows for smaller incisions and reduced recovery time compared with other liposuction techniques. The vibrating tip used in PAL allows for safer liposuction because of its small, precise motions. Dr. Kenna or Dr. Buckius can target specific areas without damaging surrounding tissue.
